Top Shelf

As an avid traveller, photography enthusiast, and novice writer with a passion for interior design, my book shelves are filled with titles that run the gamut.

I usually have a few books that I read concurrently, and for this month of January, these are on my side table:

Part of my 2009 goal is to find ways to make travel more meaningful. Since I have such limited opportunities for peregrinations, I have been hankering after Alain de Botton's Art of Travel to shed some light on this affair.

Many, many moons ago, I saw the movie Out of Africa and loved it. I call it my "reverse model of interest", when a movie actually inspires me to read the book.

The New Safari by Mandy Allen and Robyn Alexander (editor), provides me with both my design fix and my African safari fix, with its robust images and thoughtful accounts of contemporary luxury lodges in Southern Africa.

And finally, my interest in interior design has led me this month to The Villas and Riads of Morocco and antiquarian Axel Vervoordt's Timeless Interiors. The former takes me to secret mansions tucked away in the medinas of Morocco, whereas the latter reveals secrets on how to make objects from the past fit in to our modern lives with a fresh and timeless perspective.

Winter is the perfect time to snuggle up with a book. What's on your shelf right now?

Books, bus, design, interior decor, Lifestyle, luxury, travel, travellers, and more:
