Paris' Most Charming Salons

As a Paris-obsessed gal, I just have to write about the City of Light's most enchantingly irresistible salons de thés. There is something about sitting in one of these rooms, staring at the trompe l'oeil on the wall and chandeliers on the ceiling; sipping a cup of coffee, tea, or hot chocolate; nibbling on tea sandwiches and those dainty French viennoiserie; and pondering the meaning of life in the most romantic city in the world. So, here are my personal favourites, handpicked for their sumptuous elegance and tantalizing menus!

1) Café de la Paix
12, Boulevard des Capucines, Paris, France +33 8 92 68 06 89

What to order: Plateau Prestige ( pour deux personnes - for two) - silver trays cascading with lobster, Dublin Bay prawns, pink shrimps, crab, clams, queen scallops, and an assortment of oysters: Fines de Claires, d'Isigny Taillepied, Gillardeau, and Belons de Bretagne. Yum!

Perfect for: a romantic dinner date

The X-factor: Picasso, Churchill, Maupassant, and the Bonapartistes ate here.

2) 1728
8, Rue d'Anjou, Paris, France +33 1 40 17 04 77

What's worthwhile: The Pompadour Room, where Madame de Pompadour (Louis XV's mistress) allegedly held court while her home was under construction.

Perfect for: a late afternoon tea with your mother

The X-factor: A fine collection of Chinese teas housed in an historic French townhouse

3) Ladurée
21, Rue Bonaparte, Paris, France +33 1 44 07 64 87
16, Rue Royale, Paris, France +33 1 42 60 21 79
75, Avenue des Champs-Elysées, Paris, France +33 1 40 75 08 75

Recommended plat by my fashionista friend, Gigi Lao-Jamias: Salade Richelieu - fresh organic salmon, baby spinach, spinach tagliatelle, mint, niora paprika, olive oil, and lemon juice (photo below).
Recommended desserts by moi: Saint-Honoré Rose-Framboise, Eclair Chocolat, Millefeuille Praliné, Divin, and of course, those luscious macarons.

Perfect for: brunch with your girl friends

The X-factor: Sophia Coppola turned to their pastel creations for her movie, Marie Antoinette; although, historically, Ladurée wasn't around during the dauphine's head-rolling time.

What to remember: The long queues are worth it! Breakfast is the best time to nab a table.

Perfect for: petit déjeuner with the kids

The X-factor: Extra thick le Chocolat Africain
